The most important tool is sometimes the hardest to obtain. Your demo is a necessary tool to get your business started, however not everyone is ready for such an important step. There are tons of companies out there that will produce your demo whenever you want them to. I feel however that most of these companies do not care about your results, only your pocket book. The problem with producing your demo before your ready is that you might not be able to pull off what your demo suggests.
So what makes you demo worthy? There are many things to take into consideration, but for the most part a considerable amount of training is usually 100% necessary before you create your demo. It’s not fair either because you can’t make money without it and if it’s not done right or at the right time, you won’t make money with it. It is so important you don’t rush this process. You should be able to pull off anything your demo suggests. To be able to become these personalities on any script I give you.
You need to have variety (which most people lack) and offer at least 5-10 different personalities. You want people to listen and say, “is that the same person?” There are many different types of demos, but they all still need the same result. I hear many demos that are produced really well but no matter how they produce it, it’s the same style of voice/personality throughout the entire demo. While that might get you somewhere in the small/medium market place, that will NOT get you into any significant agents doors and without significant agents, your jobs will remain $100 here, $300 there etc. It’s important that when you take this challenge on that you know EXACTLY what you are selling, how to sell it, that you have tons of variety and that you FEEL ready. If you have to ask the question, “Am I ready to make a demo”, then I challenge that you probably aren’t ready.
It never used to be this way. You would just make a demo, then start to pursue work and training, but in today’s industry, you can’t rush this step and you need to do it right the first time. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Chose your demo team wisely. If you are directing your own demo, you might be saving money – but I assure you – no matter your experience level, that you are not getting your 100% best work. Then once the demo is done, what do you do with it? A good demo team will help you find agents and means to work with that demo, so make sure you research the team and know what you’re getting into. You will find every price point under the sun, but 9 times out of 10, you get what you pay for, so be wary.
Join me for a 2 hour webinar next Wednesday June 26th at 8 p.m. EST that will help you know where you are at, what you need to work on and if you are demo ready. This is a great opportunity for a VO assessment for 1/3 of the cost of hiring a private coach. EVERY person on the call will be assessed.
I very much look forward to helping you in this area and getting you DEMO WORTHY.
All my best
